As one of the staff at Excel Consulting it is important for us to gain a deeper understanding of the products that we sell. So, as part of my induction I attended one of Excel Intermediate training courses here in Brisbane.
The course started at 9am with most people arriving slightly beforehand. I attended the training at the Christie Corporate Centre which is in the wonderful old tax building in the heart of Brisbane city.
The course started with a general introduction to the trainer and what his experience was with Excel. Crazily enough he started using Excel 25 years ago on the early model DOS systems. Then the trainer (Jason), gave a general introduction of what he was going to be covering in the day and the general order he was going to cover it in.
The course went at a great pace, not too fast and not too slow. But there’s a lot of information to take in which makes the manuals so helpful. Just a couple of quick notes and the manual is enough to practice the skills later on. A lot of people ask questions which becomes helpful when you’re struggling a bit with the content yourself. Which makes for a great learning environment.
At the training, there were two short coffee and tea breaks plus a lunch break. Which broke up the learning content quite well. In regards to the content, it was a mixture of the content taught in the manual and from the trainer’s personal experience as well. This was especially helpful because the trainer gave advice and examples on the different circumstances in which you could use the material. I also learnt a couple of Excel shortcuts which I could just see myself using all the time ( I am a little dorky when it comes to Excel shortcuts).
Overall I enjoyed the training. The content was great and the atmosphere was even better. Everyone there learnt something new and one comment that stuck with me from the training is “this training becomes so exciting when you apply what you’ve learnt to your own work”. When you see how this training revolutionises the way you work that is something that becomes truly exciting.
